Model KayaNilson has taken on the enigmatic Ada Wong, one of Resident Evil’s most elusive characters. Sporting the signature red dress with a daring slit, jet-black hair, and a steely gaze hinting at a built-in plan B-usually better than plan A-her cosplay perfectly captures Ada’s mysterious allure.
The mystery behind Ada Wong
”Ada Wong” is a codename. Her real name remains unknown, her nationality ambiguous, and her backstory before entering the shadowy world of espionage is a complete blank. Since her debut nearly 30 years ago, Capcom has deliberately kept Ada’s origins under wraps, crafting an aura of mystery rather than filling in the blanks.

Ada first appeared in Resident Evil 2 (1998), posing as a researcher but secretly working for a rival of Umbrella Corporation. Her mission-to secure a sample of the deadly G-virus-put her on a collision course with rookie cop Leon Kennedy. Throughout the game, she repeatedly saves Leon, though that was never part of her official job.
Since then, Ada’s role has followed a familiar pattern across the series: she arrives with a new employer’s mission, pursues her own shadowy objectives, betrays her employer at the opportune moment, then vanishes-leaving everyone guessing. In Resident Evil 4, she works for the cryptic Albert Wesker but undermines his plans. In Resident Evil 6, she operates autonomously, helping to prevent a catastrophic biohazard outbreak.

Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami cited the French action thriller Nikita as inspiration for Ada’s redesign-a comparison that fits. Both characters operate from the shadows, master manipulation, and never fully escape the control of the powers that use them.
The iconic red dress cosplay
Ada’s crimson dress with its thigh-high slit is as emblematic of Resident Evil as Jill Valentine’s beret or Leon Kennedy’s leather jacket. Capcom shook things up in the Resident Evil 4 remake by swapping that dress for a red sweater and leather pants-more functional for an island swarming with cultists. Fans are divided: some applaud the practicality, others long for the classic look. KayaNilson opted to honor the signature style in her cosplay.

Resident Evil franchise resurgence in 2026
Capcom has kept the Resident Evil franchise in the spotlight with steady releases. February 2026 saw the launch of Resident Evil Requiem, introducing a new lead, Grace Ashcroft, alongside returning fan-fave Leon Kennedy. The game sold seven million copies within two months. March followed with the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, widely anticipated by fans as the most eagerly awaited remake yet.

With Ada Wong’s mystique as potent as ever and cosplay keeping her legacy alive, it will be interesting to see if future Resident Evil titles deepen her story or continue to delight fans with her inscrutable charm. Will Capcom finally reveal more of Ada’s past, or is her mystery here to stay?
