Geely’s new hybrid sedan, the Galaxy A7 EM, just shattered expectations by driving an astonishing 2,608.36 km (1,621 miles) without refueling or recharging-earning a Guinness World Records title. This marks the longest confirmed distance for a production plug-in hybrid sedan on a single energy fill-up.
Launched in China in April 2026 as a mid-size family hybrid, the Galaxy A7 EM starts at about 89,800 yuan (roughly 1 million rubles or $12,500). Geely had initially claimed a total range of up to 2,150 km (1,336 miles), so the record run exceeded official specs by a significant margin.

The heart of this feat is Geely’s fresh plug-in hybrid system, which allows the sedan to travel up to 235 km (146 miles) purely on electric power before switching to a gasoline engine that reportedly consumes just around 2 liters per 100 km (118 mpg US). This combined electric range and ultra-low fuel consumption put the Galaxy A7 EM ahead of many mass-market PHEVs, especially as Chinese automakers fiercely compete to maximize electric-only distances.
While the record grab is impressive, the Galaxy A7 EM isn’t just a showpiece. It’s a fairly large sedan with a 2,845 mm (112 inches) wheelbase, designed for family use and long drives rather than urban hopping. In China, buyers prize roomy, well-equipped hybrids with fuel economy numbers creeping close to diesels.

The Galaxy A7 EM enters a fiercely contested segment in China, competing against heavy hitters like BYD’s Qin L DM-i and Seal 06 DM-i plug-in hybrids, which also boast over 2,000 km total range claims. Geely’s Guinness-certified record gives it a standout headline in a market where plug-in hybrids and EVs now account for more than half of new car sales, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.
Looking ahead, the real test for the Galaxy A7 EM is converting this impressive record into steady sales. If Geely maintains its attractive starting price and real-world fuel consumption approaches its claims, the Galaxy A7 EM could shake up a category long dominated by BYD, becoming a major contender for families seeking spacious, efficient hybrid sedans.
