Casio has turned the plain-Jane DW-5600 into a streetwear collaboration with actual personality. The new DW-5600TNT-7, made with Seoul label thisisneverthat, swaps the usual G-Shock toughness aesthetic for translucent resin, glowing bezel text, and a blacked-out LCD that looks far more deliberate than the average limited-edition cash grab. It is set to launch in July 2026.
Casio is keeping the formula familiar underneath the styling. That is the smart part: the DW-5600 silhouette is one of the brand’s safest bets, so the only real risk here is whether fans prefer collectible design or the more functional, tool-watch look of standard G-Shocks.
What changes on the DW-5600TNT-7
Casio has used clear resin for both the bezel and strap, while the inverted LCD gives the face a sharper contrast against the transparent shell. The thisisneverthat branding shows up on the dial, the strap keeper, and the stainless steel case back, so nobody will mistake this for a quiet release.
The most playful touch is the phosphorescent ”PROTECTION” and ”G-SHOCK” text on the bezel. Instead of just sitting there as decoration, it glows in the dark on its own, which is a neat trick for a watch already relying on a white LED backlight.
DW-5600 specs stay reassuringly familiar
For anyone buying a G-Shock for the specs rather than the fit check, the hardware is standard DW-5600 fare. The case measures 48.9 by 42.8 by 13.4 millimeters, weighs 52 grams, uses mineral glass, and carries Casio’s usual shock resistance plus 200-meter water resistance. Battery life is estimated at about five years from a CR2016 coin cell, so no solar charging here.
- 1/100-second stopwatch
- 24-hour countdown timer
- Multi-function alarm
- Flash alert with white LED backlight
Price and release in Japan
The DW-5600TNT-7 is already listed on Casio’s international site and will sell for ¥18,700 ($116) in Japan when it arrives this July. It also ships in a custom box made for the collaboration, because if you are buying a designer G-Shock, the packaging apparently has to pull its weight too.
Casio has been leaning hard on nostalgia and collaboration lately, from the retro AQ230A-7DMQY to the more expensive MTG-B4000B-1A. That makes the new translucent DW-5600 less of a one-off and more of a pattern: Casio knows the classic square still sells, and it is happy to dress it up for a different audience without touching the formula that made it work.
A collector piece or a daily wearer?
The open question is whether buyers see this as a fun summer collab or another watch destined to live on social feeds and secondary markets. Casio has given it enough real-world durability to be worn, but the translucent case and branded details make it look like something people may want more for the shelf than the wrist.
