China may be lining up a Boeing order that starts with more than 200 aircraft and could grow to 750 if the first deliveries go smoothly, according to Donald Trump. If that happens, it would be the biggest order in Boeing’s history – and a very loud vote of confidence at a time when the company still needs every win it can get.

The reported Boeing China deal is not just about airframes. Trump said General Electric engines could also be part of the package, with roughly 400 to 450 engines needed for the first 200 jets. If the order expands, the engine bill would rise with it – a reminder that the real money in aviation usually travels in pairs: the plane and the powerplant.

Boeing could turn one order into a long pipeline

The scale matters because Boeing and Airbus have spent years fighting over deliveries, backlog, and political access in China, one of the world’s most important aircraft markets. A deal of this size would give Boeing not just revenue, but years of production visibility, which is far more valuable than a single headline number.

Trump did not say which models are under discussion, and that is the interesting omission. Earlier reporting had pointed to a possible purchase of 500 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, alongside wide-body jets, which suggests China may be thinking in fleet terms rather than a one-type shopping spree.

What is on the table

  • More than 200 Boeing aircraft in the initial phase
  • Potential expansion to 750 aircraft
  • General Electric engines for the order
  • About 400 to 450 engines for the first 200 planes

If the first stage really lands, expect the next phase to become a battle over timing, financing, and aircraft mix. Boeing has plenty riding on any Chinese breakthrough, and Airbus will not be sitting around admiring the paperwork.
