Bentley has officially named its first all-electric production vehicle the Bentley Torcal, with a full reveal scheduled for September 23, 2026, in London. This marks a significant shift for the brand, which until now has relied heavily on powerful gasoline and hybrid models.

The name Torcal references El Torcal de Antequera, a striking limestone mountain range in Andalusia, Spain. Alongside the announcement, Bentley released only a minimalist teaser-no specs, no interior shots, not even a full silhouette. Bentley CEO Frank-Steffen Walliser emphasized that the new electric vehicle will set new standards for comfort, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design.

Bentley’s move arrives amid fierce competition in the luxury electric vehicle space. Rolls-Royce has already launched its Spectre electric coupe, Mercedes-Maybach offers the EQS SUV, and Ferrari is developing its own battery-powered model. Notably, Bentley had initially planned an earlier debut but pushed back the timeline as part of a broader electrification strategy update. The Torcal is expected to stand out from these rivals, with more details promised this fall.

For context, Bentley’s shift to fully electric aligns with a broader luxury trend as legacy automakers accelerate EV launches to compete with Tesla and other newcomers. Bentley’s strength in handcrafted interiors and refined driving experiences faces a high bar in the electric vehicle era, making the Torcal’s upcoming debut an important chapter for the brand’s future.

What remains to be seen is how Bentley balances its traditional opulence with the technical demands of electrification-whether the Torcal will truly push the luxury EV segment forward or lean on brand heritage. The September 2026 premiere will be a key moment to evaluate Bentley’s vision for an electric future.
