ASRock has added another small surprise to the supposedly finished AM4 era: the new B550 Rock WiFi is a budget ATX motherboard for AMD Ryzen chips on a socket that first appeared in 2016, and it is already on sale in Japan for about 17,000 yen, or roughly $105. That price and feature mix tell you exactly what this board is for – people who want Ryzen 5000 support, DDR4 memory, and modern wireless without paying for a newer platform that may not move the real-world needle much for everyday work or gaming.

The timing is hardly random. AM4 has outlived several rival platforms because it covers a very large installed base, and boards like this give upgraders a cheaper path than jumping to AM5 plus DDR5. In other words, old socket, fresh SKU: a very 2026 move.

B550 Rock WiFi specs and supported Ryzen chips

The board uses AMD’s B550 chipset and supports Ryzen 3000, Ryzen 3000G, Ryzen 4000G, Ryzen 5000, and Ryzen 5000G processors. Memory support goes up to 128 GB of DDR4 across four slots, while CPU power is handled by a 10-phase VRM setup. For a mainstream ATX model, that is plenty for the processors it targets.

Wi-Fi 6E and rear ports on the ASRock B550 Rock WiFi

Where the B550 Rock WiFi tries to look newer than its socket is the connectivity. It includes built-in Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth, which still isn’t standard fare on many low-cost AM4 boards, plus a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. On the rear panel, ASRock also fits HDMI, USB Type-C, several USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, and USB 2.0. That is a pretty practical mix for a platform whose main selling point is value, not bragging rights.

Japan gets the first sale for now

For now, ASRock has confirmed sales only in Japan and has not announced any other markets. That leaves the board in a familiar holding pattern: niche on paper, useful in practice, and exactly the sort of product that keeps legacy platforms alive long after the industry would prefer everyone moved on. Expect other regions to watch demand closely if this one sells through quickly.
