Altai-based road construction company Southern DSU has invested 105 million rubles to build its own fleet, acquiring 10 MAZ-6501 dump trucks with MAZ-8561 trailers. This move cuts reliance on third-party haulers for transporting inert materials from local quarries and processing plants-eliminating a logistical bottleneck where delays directly impact project timelines.
”Rented equipment regularly disrupted our schedules and sometimes failed to deliver the quality and speed needed,” said CEO Sergey Razumov. Owning a dedicated fleet should ensure smoother operations, faster adaptation to changing demands, and lower costs overall. The company also plans to rent out its trucks as an additional revenue stream.
The new MAZ dump trucks are built for long-haul durability, featuring sleeping cabins and air conditioning for driver comfort. Their fuel efficiency is especially important in Altai, where distances between quarries, depots, and road repair sites are significant, making fuel expenses a major cost factor.
Southern DSU’s expanded fleet includes semi-trucks and maintenance vehicles
Southern DSU’s fleet upgrade extends beyond dump trucks. Earlier in January, the company acquired two semi-trucks, creating a fully integrated logistics unit rather than randomly assembled vehicles. Operating across 10 districts in the Altai region, this fleet renewal signals a strategic shift away from equipment rental toward ownership.
Shift toward Belarusian heavy machinery in Russian road construction
The company’s recent purchases align with a broader shift toward Belarusian machinery in Russia’s municipal and road maintenance sectors. Besides the MAZ dump trucks, Southern DSU bought 10 MAZ road maintenance vehicles and nine Belarus tractors fitted with mowers. Belarusian equipment has gained ground in Russia after European suppliers withdrew and Western alternatives became pricier.
Benefits of owning MAZ dump trucks for Altai road projects
This investment will make a tangible difference in the coming construction season in the Altai foothills. With its own trucks, Southern DSU should reduce delays caused by subcontractors, speeding material transportation and helping maintain repair schedules-critical in zones where a single logistics failure can halt entire projects.
