Navitel has rolled out an update to Navitel Navigator 12, featuring a new ”Motorcycle” mode that adjusts routing and camera alerts specifically for two-wheelers. Instead of treating motorbikes like cars, the app now offers shorter, tailored routes with different settings for city streets, highways, and how bikes navigate traffic flow.
The most noticeable change is in speed camera notifications. In motorcycle mode, the app no longer alerts for ”face-on” speed cameras that typically capture front license plates-useless for motorcycles whose plates are rear-mounted. However, alerts for ”rear-facing” cameras remain active, providing relevant warnings without excess noise.
Navitel also revamped how traffic congestion is handled. Though traffic data hasn’t disappeared, it’s processed differently to better reflect motorcycle behavior in dense city traffic and on rural roads. This aims to help riders pick more efficient routes that suit their unique riding patterns.
Motorcycle mode tailored for optimized routing and alerts
This update signals Navitel’s effort to carve out a more thoughtful niche in motorcycle navigation-a segment that global and Russian mapping services have largely overlooked. Google Maps introduced a motorcycle mode back in 2018 but only limited it to India without expanding globally. Most Russian map apps simply apply one-size-fits-all routes with no bike-specific logic.
Navitel’s offline capabilities benefit motorcyclists
Navitel’s edge is its strong offline capabilities, ideal for motorcyclists who often ride through highways and areas without reliable data. The refreshed Navitel Navigator is now available on Google Play, AppGallery, and the company’s official website. The real test of how well the new mode improves over standard car routing will emerge once the riding season heats up and more extensive user data accumulates.
