Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Photo Printer 2 on its Chinese crowdfunding platform Youpin, with the campaign kicking off on July 13. This new version updates the 2020 original by adding four-color dye-sublimation printing-including a black (K) layer-and swapping out Wi-Fi for Bluetooth 5.2. For at-home users, this simplifies connectivity and eliminates the need for a dedicated network to print directly from smartphones.
Priced at 699 yuan (around $97), the Mijia Photo Printer 2 addresses long-overdue upgrades. The predecessor, Mijia Photo Printer 1S, relied on a three-color printing process that lacked a true black tone, which compromised the quality of text and dark image areas. The addition of the black ink layer makes a tangible difference on small prints, especially when printing photos straight from a phone.

The new model also broadens supported paper formats. While the 1S only handled square adhesive photo paper and 6-inch sheets, the Photo Printer 2 adds support for 4-inch double-sided photo paper-ideal for ID cards, mini albums, and documents requiring printing on both sides.
- Four-color dye-sublimation printing including a black (K) layer
- Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity replacing 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
- Supports 4-inch, 6-inch, and square self-adhesive photo papers
- Multiple users can connect simultaneously
- Eight built-in filters for quick photo touch-ups before printing
- LUT-based color correction tools, AR photo features, and ID photo mode
- Several lamination options beyond standard glossy coating
- Dimensions: 199 × 126.6 × 85.7 mm
Switching from Wi-Fi to Bluetooth aligns with how compact photo printers are typically used-tethered closely to phones rather than routers. Canon’s SELPHY line and Fujifilm’s Instax Link models similarly focus on fast, direct printing from smartphones, embracing ”shoot and print” convenience. Xiaomi is following suit but with its signature focus on affordable pricing and integration within its Mijia smart home ecosystem.
Consumables are sold separately, with starter packs of 4-inch double-sided paper and 6-inch four-color ”professional” paper launching at 69.2 yuan each. Xiaomi plans to release more options:
- 4-inch double-sided paper pack at 79.2 yuan
- 3-inch self-adhesive pack at 99 yuan
- 6-inch pack at 129 yuan
- 6-inch professional four-color version at 159 yuan
Printing costs range from 0.99 yuan per 4-inch sheet up to 2.48 yuan per 6-inch print in the new four-color process.
Ink and paper costs often sway buyer decisions more heavily than the printer’s price itself in the home photo printer segment. Xiaomi’s low entry price, combined with a range of consumables and streamlined smartphone printing, could give the Mijia Photo Printer 2 a real shot at competing beyond China against established players like Canon’s SELPHY and Fujifilm’s smartphone-friendly printers.
It will be worth watching if Xiaomi expands availability outside China and whether the device can carve out a niche by blending affordability, print quality improvements, and convenience. With mobile photo printing increasingly popular worldwide, Xiaomi’s bet on Bluetooth 5.2 and four-color printing could set a new baseline for entry-level photo printers globally.
