Xiaomi has added another outdoor camera to its China-only lineup, and this one is built for places where Wi-Fi, power sockets, and patience are all in short supply. The Smart Solar Camera 4 Pro 4G Dual-Camera Edition is crowdfunding on Xiaomi Youpin with an early-bird price of 579 yuan, or roughly $80.

The formula is simple: dual 4G SIM support for connectivity, a built-in battery for backup, and a solar panel to keep it topped up. That combination puts it in the same practical category as a growing wave of self-powered security cameras aimed at courtyards, farms, warehouses, and anywhere else running Ethernet feels like a joke.

Xiaomi Smart Solar Camera 4 Pro 4G specs

Xiaomi says the camera uses a 9,900mAh battery that can last more than a week on a single charge, paired with a 7.6W solar panel for continuous operation under normal sunlight conditions. The main camera setup includes two 5-megapixel sensors, each capable of 3K recording, with an f/1.6 aperture and a white light plus infrared light combo that kicks in when a person is detected.

  • Dual 4G SIM card support
  • 9,900mAh battery
  • 7.6W solar panel
  • Two 5-megapixel cameras
  • 3K recording on both lenses
  • IP66 dust and water resistance

How the AOV recording mode saves storage

The camera also supports AOV, or Always-On Video, which is Xiaomi’s way of avoiding the storage-guzzling habit of recording at full speed all the time. When nothing is happening, it drops to one frame every 2 seconds and, according to Xiaomi, cuts storage use by more than 90%. That’s the sort of feature that makes far more sense in a battery-powered camera than another vague ”smart” badge slapped on the box.

For alerts, the camera sounds an alarm, flashes a light, and sends a notification through the Mi Home app. It also supports two-way voice communication, so you can talk to whoever is standing in front of it, whether that’s a delivery driver or someone who should probably leave immediately. Xiaomi’s HyperConnect support means it can also tie into other Xiaomi smart home devices.

Crowdfunding date and retail plans

Crowdfunding starts at 10:00 AM on July 6 on Xiaomi Youpin. For now, Xiaomi has not said when the camera will reach wider retail channels, and there is no international pricing yet. That leaves the new model as another reminder that Xiaomi still likes to test niche hardware at home first, then see whether the rest of the world deserves it later.
