WhatsApp is now rolling out support for two accounts on iPhone, bringing a long-awaited WhatsApp dual-account feature out of beta and into the standard iOS app. The change should make life easier for people who juggle work and personal numbers without wanting to keep a second phone alive for no good reason.

The feature first appeared for a small group of beta testers in November, and even after an official announcement in March, access was still being switched on in waves. That kind of staggered rollout is classic WhatsApp: announce loudly, then drip-feed the actual utility. Competitors such as Telegram and Apple’s own Messages already make account switching less painful in their own ways, so Meta is late, but at least it’s finally moving.

How the WhatsApp dual-account switcher works

To check whether the option has landed, users need to open ”Settings” and then ”Account”. If it is available, a new ”Add account” item will appear. From there, you can register a fresh number or link an existing account by scanning a QR code, then switch between profiles from the same menu.

Why WhatsApp is catching up now

Dual-account support has been a basic ask for years, especially in markets where one person often carries multiple SIMs. Bringing it to iPhone closes a gap that Android users have long pointed out too, and it strengthens WhatsApp’s grip at a time when messaging apps are leaning harder on convenience features to keep users from drifting elsewhere.

The remaining question is how quickly the feature reaches everyone, because WhatsApp has already shown it prefers controlled rollouts over one dramatic switch. Expect the wait to shrink, but not vanish overnight.
