Apple TV has dropped the first official trailer for Lucky, the new Apple TV series led by Anya Taylor-Joy. The crime drama premieres on July 15 and follows a former scam artist pulled back into the life she tried to leave behind after winning the lottery.

Taylor-Joy plays Lucky Armstrong, a woman whose fresh start does not last long. The series leans into a familiar one-last-job setup, with high stakes, a glossy look, and enough literary pedigree to give it some extra weight.

Lucky cast and episode count

The first season runs for seven episodes. Alongside Taylor-Joy, the cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Drew Starkey, and Annette Bening. Jonathan Tropper serves as showrunner, while Reese Witherspoon is among the producers.

The series is based on Marissa Stapley’s novel of the same name, which gives Apple TV another book adaptation to add to its growing lineup of star-led dramas.

Why Apple TV keeps betting on book adaptations

Book-based series remain one of streaming’s safer bets. They arrive with a built-in audience, an established tone, and a clear pitch for viewers scrolling through a crowded homepage. Apple TV has leaned on that formula before, and Lucky fits it neatly.

The trailer suggests the show is more interested in character than action. That may be the stronger play: crime stories with a redemption angle often travel better than pure capers, and Taylor-Joy has already shown she can carry a series built on style, tension, and a slightly dangerous kind of charm.

What the Lucky trailer is selling

Strip away the glossy framing and the hook is simple: a woman who thought she had escaped crime discovers the past is not done with her. If Apple TV has landed the emotional beats as well as the twists, Lucky could become an easy recommendation when it premieres on July 15.
