Samsung’s next book-style foldables are shaping up to be a split personality act: a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a pricier Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. A new Galaxy Z Fold 8 leak, apparently from a sighting in South Korea, suggests the regular Fold 8 is going wider and shorter than previous models, and it may borrow much of the same camera hardware expected on the Ultra.

The leaked photos are fuzzy, as these things usually are, but they still tell a story. The device appears in a protective case on a restaurant table, while another shot shows a dual rear camera layout. That wider chassis could be Samsung’s answer to a complaint that has followed the Fold line for years: the narrow outer screen made the phone feel more like a compromise than a premium device.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 design leak

The images point to a device that looks noticeably broader than older Galaxy Z Fold phones. Rumours say Samsung may call it the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide, although the company is expected to stick with the simpler Galaxy Z Fold 8 name. Either way, the design shift appears aimed at making the cover display more usable without forcing buyers all the way up to the Ultra model.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 specs and cameras

Previous reports say the standard Fold 8 will launch below the Ultra in price and carry the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, 12GB of RAM, at least 256GB of storage, and a 4,800mAh battery. The camera setup is also looking less entry-level than Samsung’s usual ”base model” routine, with both phones said to share a 200MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and two 10MP front-facing cameras.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra adds one more camera and more battery

The Ultra is expected to keep the same core camera stack but add a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and a larger 5,000mAh battery. That leaves Samsung with a pretty obvious strategy: make the cheaper Fold 8 look less compromised, then push the Ultra as the fully loaded option for people who want the whole buffet, not just the starter.

If these leaks hold up, the real question is whether the new wider design becomes the default direction for Samsung’s foldables or just a one-generation experiment. A wider outer display is easier to defend than another year of ”trust us, this narrow screen is fine.”
