Samsung’s next book-style foldable may be getting exactly the upgrades buyers have been asking for: a thinner body, a lighter frame, and a bigger battery. A new leak from TechManiacs, picked up in the foldable rumor mill, claims the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will pair Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with a 5000 mAh battery, while a second model called Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide could arrive with a wider inner display and dual 50-megapixel cameras.
If the numbers hold up, Samsung is finally pushing the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line toward something less compromise-heavy. The standard model is said to weigh 210 g and measure 4.1 mm when unfolded, which would make it 5 g lighter than before. That may not sound like much on paper, but foldables live and die by millimeters and grams, and Samsung has been playing catch-up to rivals that have spent the last few cycles trimming bulk rather than just polishing specs.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 camera and battery details
According to the leak, the main camera remains 200 megapixels, joined by a 10-megapixel front camera. The ultra-wide module is tipped to jump to 50 megapixels, while the telephoto camera’s sensor resolution is not specified; the current one is 10 megapixels. The biggest upgrade, though, is the battery: from 4400 mAh to 5000 mAh. That is the sort of change that matters more than a flashy hinge demo, because battery anxiety is still the least charming part of owning a foldable.
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide display and battery details
The rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide goes in a different direction. Its inner display is said to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, with two 50-megapixel cameras for wide-angle and ultra-wide shooting. It is also described as weighing ”about” 200 g and packing a 4800 mAh battery. Samsung has not confirmed any intention to launch this wider variant, which makes it sound more like a prototype-friendly concept than a done deal.
- Galaxy Z Fold 8: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 210 g, 4.1 mm unfolded, 5000 mAh battery
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 cameras: 200 MP main, 10 MP front, 50 MP ultra-wide, unspecified telephoto sensor
- Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide: 4:3 inner display, two 50 MP cameras, 4800 mAh battery, about 200 g
For now, the bigger question is whether Samsung will actually ship the Wide version or file it under ”interesting idea, please ignore.” Foldables are moving toward thinner designs and larger batteries across the board, and Samsung appears to be following the same script rather than rewriting it. If this leak proves accurate, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 line will be about fixing the basics first and showing off second.
