OnePlus has begun pushing OxygenOS 16.1 to its phones, with the OnePlus 15 getting first dibs. The update has moved from release candidate to stable release, weighs about 2.1 GB, and started in India before rolling out to Europe and other regions.

The headline feature in OxygenOS 16.1 is Live Space, a lock-screen capsule that surfaces notifications, music, timers, and sports events in real time. It is OnePlus’s take on Samsung’s Now Bar idea, but with its own styling and a broader push toward making the lock screen do more than sit there.

What OxygenOS 16.1 changes

Beyond Live Space, OnePlus says the lock screen has been redesigned, the interface feels more responsive, and animations are smoother. The Control Center also gets an update, while Live Activities now cover calls, voice recorder, flashlight, and map navigation. That is a fairly practical list, which is more than many software updates can say after a lot of marketing polish.

  • First device to get the update: OnePlus 15
  • Update size: about 2.1 GB
  • Initial rollout: India
  • Later rollout: Europe and other regions
  • Key feature: Live Space on the lock screen

AI tools get a polish pass

OnePlus is also leaning harder into AI. Photo processing, document handling, and translation features have been improved, with the company promising faster and more accurate results. That tracks with where Android makers are headed: the software pitch is no longer just about speed and battery life, but about whether the phone can quietly save you a few taps and a few seconds all day long.

For OnePlus, this update is less about a flashy new version number and more about showing that OxygenOS can still feel nimble while borrowing the right ideas from rivals. The real question is whether Live Space becomes genuinely useful after the novelty wears off, or whether it ends up as one more feature users swipe past on the way to opening the app they wanted in the first place.
