Topfeel has unveiled the W1, a 5-liter mini-PC that accepts full-size AMD AM5 desktop processors and leaves room for a discrete graphics card. That puts it in rare company, because this is not a stripped-down small-form-factor box with laptop parts hiding inside. It is closer to a tiny build platform with ambitions.

The headline feature is simple enough: the W1’s motherboard supports real AMD desktop CPUs, including chips like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X. Cooling is handled by a six-heatpipe system, which sounds reassuring until you remember how much heat a full-fat desktop processor can dump into a 5-liter enclosure. Compact, yes. Magically cool, no.

Ports, memory and storage options

Topfeel also gave the W1 two DDR5 DIMM slots and a port selection that looks more workstation than living-room box. The list includes DisplayPort, HDMI, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, a USB-C port rated at 10 Gbit/s, two 2.5Gb Ethernet ports, and OCuLink.

  • 2 x DDR5 DIMM slots
  • DisplayPort and HDMI
  • 4 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
  • 2 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A
  • USB-C 10 Gbit/s
  • 2 x 2.5Gb Ethernet
  • OCuLink

A mini-PC with expansion room

The less expected part is the expansion. The W1 supports two-slot PCIe cards, which is still unusual in a mini-PC, and it also includes two 2.5-inch drive bays plus two M.2 slots. One of those M.2 connectors uses PCIe 5.0, while the other is wired for PCIe 4.0. In other words, Topfeel is not pitching this as a neat little office machine; it is aiming at users who want a small chassis without giving up serious hardware choices.

Topfeel currently sells its products only in China, and there is no word yet on an international launch for the W1. Pricing has not been announced either, which is a pity for anyone already mentally fitting a Ryzen flagship and a graphics card into one of these boxes. If the company does widen availability, this could become a useful benchmark for where compact PC design is headed next.
