Huawei’s next tri-fold phone may arrive in October, and the leak suggests the company is trying to fix the part that matters most on foldables: everyday annoyance. The alleged Huawei Mate XT 2 is said to bring a stronger hinge, a battery above 6,000mAh, and a chipset tuned for on-device AI, with a debut reportedly tied to the Mate 90 series in China.

According to the tip, Huawei could stick to the same broad playbook it has used for earlier tri-fold devices: launch in the second half of the year and pair the phone with a major flagship line. The new model is said to use the Kirin 9050 Pro, a chip that has already been floating around in separate reports, but Huawei has not confirmed it.
That would put the phone in a familiar race against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series and other premium foldables, where battery life and durability have become as important as raw speed. A tri-fold device needs more than a flashy panel to earn its keep; if the battery and hinge feel fragile, users notice fast.

The biggest hardware claim is the battery. The Mate XT 2 is tipped to pack a cell larger than 6,000mAh, up from 5,600mAh on the previous model.
