Opera has introduced Browser Connector, a new feature that lets users of Opera One and Opera GX connect external AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude directly within the browser.
This integration gives chatbots access to the content of open web pages, allowing them to pull information from browser tabs to deliver more context-aware and relevant responses while you surf the web. The feature is free and can be enabled through the AI Services section in the browser’s settings.
Opera has been actively exploring AI-powered browsing experiences. Last year, it launched Opera Neon, a browser with an AI agent feature available via a $20 monthly subscription, signaling the company’s push toward smarter, assistant-driven browsing tools.
What sets Browser Connector apart is its flexibility: users aren’t locked into just one AI service but can switch freely between different assistants based on their needs.
While Apple and Google have been experimenting with AI features in their own browsers and ecosystems – for example, Microsoft’s Edge integrates OpenAI-powered tools, and Google has announced Bard-powered search enhancements – Opera’s approach stands out by letting users connect multiple AI assistants in a single interface, providing a degree of choice and customization uncommon in mainstream browsers.
As AI assistants become a core part of how we interact with the web, the ability to integrate multiple models and switch between them could become a standard feature for browsers. Opera’s Browser Connector sets the stage for a more open and adaptable AI experience in everyday browsing.
