Russian model Tanya Korobova turns heads as Mileena, one of Mortal Kombat’s most iconic-and controversial-characters. Sporting the famously revealing pink costume, twin sai blades, and a chilling smile best kept behind a mask, her cosplay captures Mileena’s dangerous allure.
Who is Mileena in Mortal Kombat?
Mileena first appeared in Mortal Kombat II back in 1993, quickly becoming a standout face of the franchise. Originally, she was basically a palette swap of Kitana and Jade, using the same character model with a different color scheme. But her backstory soon grew much darker and more complex.

In Mortal Kombat’s lore, Mileena is a clone hybrid of Kitana, created by the sorcerer Shang Tsung under orders from Emperor Shao Kahn. Worried Kitana would betray him once she learned the truth about her origins, Shao Kahn commissioned a more controllable version. Shang Tsung merged Kitana’s Edenian DNA with that of the Tarkatan-ferocious mutants from Outworld’s wastelands. The experiment succeeded but with a gruesome side effect: Mileena’s face was horribly disfigured by a giant Tarkatan maw lined with sharp teeth-hence her signature mask.

Mileena’s personality matches her monstrous origin: sadistic, volatile, obsessed with overthrowing Kitana and seizing her throne. She fights with the grace of an Edenian and the savage ferocity of a Tarkatan. Agile and deadly with twin sai, she remains one of Outworld’s most feared warriors.

Mileena’s evolving Mortal Kombat design
Mileena’s look has changed drastically over the years. In her original Mortal Kombat II appearance, she wore a simple pink bodysuit paired with a mouth-covering mask. Starting with Mortal Kombat: Deception, her outfit became significantly more revealing-this sleek, seductive look has since become her signature, inspiring countless cosplayers worldwide.

In Mortal Kombat X, Mileena’s face was redesigned to feature human lips with her Tarkatan deformities shifted to her cheeks. But Mortal Kombat 11 reverted to the original monstrous design, complete with the fearsome maw.
The latest iteration, Mortal Kombat 1 (2023), rewrote Mileena’s story: she’s now Kitana’s actual elder twin sister and rightful heir to the Outworld throne. Her Tarkatan traits are explained as symptoms of Tarkat disease, kept in check by a Shang Tsung antidote. This timeline marks Mileena’s first turn as a sympathetic hero-loyal, caring, and fighting on the side of good.

Mileena in film and other media
Mileena was played by Sisi Stringer in the 2021 Mortal Kombat movie. In May 2026, the sequel Mortal Kombat 2 hit theaters, starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage. Meanwhile, NetherRealm Studios wrapped support for Mortal Kombat 1 and launched the Definitive Edition.
Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat, once described Mileena and Kitana as ”the female versions of Scorpion and Sub-Zero,” the two ninjas who define the franchise’s identity. This comparison holds up-each of these four characters commands their own dedicated fanbase and remains a popular choice for cosplayers three decades after their debut.
