DJI has launched the Osmo Pocket 4, its latest flagship pocket-sized stabilized camera, boasting a host of upgrades over last year’s Osmo Pocket 3. The new model brings a bigger sensor, enhanced slow-motion capabilities, and smarter tracking features designed to elevate mobile content creation.

At the heart of the Osmo Pocket 4 is a brand-new 1-inch CMOS sensor, featuring a focal length equivalent to 20mm and an aperture of f/2.0. This sensor supports high-frame-rate slow motion at up to 4K resolution and 240 frames per second, allowing ultra-smooth video clips with impressive detail. It also offers 14 stops of dynamic range and 10-bit D-Log recording, enabling greater flexibility for post-production color grading.

Photography is boosted with a maximum resolution of 37 megapixels (up to 7680 × 4320 in 16:9 aspect ratio), supporting DNG RAW files and manual shutter speeds up to 4 seconds. DJI has also introduced a ”lossless” 2× zoom at 4K video and a new 4× zoom option for Full HD 1080p videos. Standard video capture maxes out at 4K at 60fps.

Stabilization remains a key feature, with a three-axis gimbal system now paired with DJI’s ActiveTrack 7.0. This version can maintain subject tracking even when zoomed in 4×, a first for the series. Additional modes include Spotlight Follow and Dynamic Framing, capable of tracking people, animals, vehicles, and even individual faces. The camera also gains six new cinematic color filters for creative flexibility.

The Osmo Pocket 4 features an upgraded 2-inch OLED touchscreen with a sharp 556 × 314 resolution and a brightness peak of 1,000 nits-substantial improvements over the previous model’s 700 nits. The display supports both landscape and portrait orientations, catering to modern video and social media formats.

Control-wise, DJI added a dedicated zoom button for quick toggling between 1× and 2× magnification, a customizable presets button, and a refined 5D joystick that lets users adjust scrolling speed.

On the connectivity front, the Osmo Pocket 4 packs 107GB of internal storage capable of transfer speeds up to 800MB/s, alongside support for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE 5.4 for fast data sharing and remote control.

Powering the camera is a 1545mAh battery that offers up to 240 minutes of 1080p video recording at 24fps. Rapid charging features allow the battery to reach 80% capacity in approximately 18 minutes with a 65W charger, and a full charge completes in 32 minutes.

The Osmo Pocket 4 pricing is as follows:

  • Standard Combo: €499 / £445
  • Creator Combo: €619 / £549 (includes DJI Mic 3 transmitter, lighting module, wide-angle lens, mini tripod)

However, due to current FCC restrictions on importing foreign drones and camera equipment, the Osmo Pocket 4 will initially be unavailable in the US, limiting its reach to European and other international markets for now.

DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 enters a competitive niche dominated by smartphones increasingly packing gimbal-style stabilization and advanced video modes. But with its dedicated hardware, larger sensor, and professional-grade features, DJI aims to keep appealing to content creators seeking more than a phone camera can offer.

Going forward, it will be interesting to see how DJI balances portability and performance in pocket cameras as smartphones continue to close the gap on video quality and user experience. The Osmo Pocket 4’s success may hinge on how many creators prioritize specialized gear over all-in-one devices.
