Xiaomi has introduced a new purple color option for its Mijia Colorful Suitcase, now available for crowdfunding on the Youpin platform. The 20-inch model costs 199 yuan (around $28), while the 24-inch version is priced at 299 yuan (about $43). Shipments are scheduled to begin on March 26.
Constructed from lightweight yet durable polypropylene (PP), the suitcase features a textured surface designed to resist scratches and protect against everyday wear and tear during travel.
Inside, a polyester lining with an antibacterial coating helps to prevent bacterial growth. The interior layout includes a U-shaped zippered compartment and X-shaped cross straps to organize belongings neatly.
The 20-inch suitcase measures 355 × 235 × 510 mm (body) and 375 × 235 × 570 mm overall, weighs 2.7 kg, and offers 40 liters of packing space. The 24-inch model measures 430 × 275 × 615 mm (body) and 445 × 275 × 670 mm total, weighs 3.4 kg, and provides 67 liters of capacity.
Both versions roll smoothly on large multi-directional wheels designed for quiet movement over various surfaces. A TSA-approved lock ensures security during air travel, while an aluminum alloy telescoping handle adjusts across four height settings and resists corrosion.
Additional features include reinforced side supports to guard against abrasion and a comfortable TPU handle. The new purple finish joins existing color options like black, blue, white, pink, and green.
Xiaomi’s Mijia Colorful Suitcase aims to offer affordable, thoughtfully designed luggage in a segment dominated by brands such as Away, Samsonite, and Rimowa, which often come with significantly higher price tags. Its lightweight build and antibacterial inner lining are features increasingly common in premium suitcases but less so at this price point.
With smartphones and smart home products driving most of Xiaomi’s brand recognition globally, the company’s venture into travel gear via the Mijia sub-brand shows its intent to expand its ecosystem. The move aligns with a trend of tech companies adding lifestyle products – a space where durability, design, and affordability are key.
