Xiaomi has unveiled the Mijia Front-Opening Suitcase, a travel-friendly carry-on designed for busy professionals and frequent flyers. Available in 18- and 20-inch sizes, it starts at 399 yuan ($58) and goes up to 499 yuan ($72). The standout feature is a front compartment for quick access without unpacking the main section.
The front compartment is split into two zones – one holds laptops up to 16 inches, while the other is perfect for chargers, power banks, and cables. This setup is especially handy at airport security or during meetings when you need something fast.
The main storage is spacious and secured by a dual U-shaped zipper that keeps contents safe and prevents items from falling out. Inside, there’s a water-resistant liner that separates wet from dry items, and a deep 1:9 layout to fit bulky winter clothes or oddly shaped gear.

The suitcase shell is made from Covestro PC polycarbonate, which offers strong protection at a relatively light weight. For security, there’s a built-in TSA-approved lock. The 18-inch model has a single zipper, while the 20-inch version features a double zipper system.
Mobility gets a boost with silent, omnidirectional wheels and a telescoping handle adjustable to three heights on the smaller suitcase and four on the larger one.
Inside, an antibacterial lining claims to reduce bacterial growth by up to 99%, according to lab tests, adding a hygiene edge for frequent travelers.
Xiaomi offers the Mijia Front-Opening Suitcase in Deep Gray Silver and Distant Mountain Green. The 18-inch model holds 37.5 liters and weighs 3.4 kg; the 20-inch version offers 39 liters and weighs 3.7 kg.
While premium brands like Away and Samsonite have long emphasized front-access panels and tech compartments, Xiaomi’s offering targets budget-conscious travelers who want smart features without the luxury price. At roughly $58 to $72, this suitcase could shake up the mid-tier luggage segment with a practical, travel-focused design.
As Xiaomi continues expanding its lifestyle product range beyond smartphones and IoT devices, watching how its travel gear competes internationally will be interesting. Will features like antibacterial linings and front laptop access become standard in affordable luggage? This launch could signal growing consumer demand for suitcases that blend convenience, security, and hygiene in one package.
