For international tech enthusiasts, Vivo’s latest move highlights a growing trend in smartphone photography: pushing optical zoom boundaries with attachable lenses that deliver DSLR-like reach and clarity. As flagship smartphones increasingly serve as primary cameras for creators and everyday users alike, innovations like Vivo’s ZEISS telephoto extenders promise to dramatically expand what’s possible from a device that fits in your pocket. This holds particular significance for markets where professional-quality photography gear may be less accessible, making high-powered smartphone zoom a practical game-changer globally.
For those outside Russia, Vivo might be less familiar, but it’s one of the country’s most popular smartphone brands and a dominant player in Asia’s competitive mobile market. The upcoming Vivo X300 Ultra, expected to launch soon, continues the brand’s collaboration with optics giant ZEISS-a partnership prized domestically for merging cutting-edge camera tech with top-tier lenses.
Vivo has revealed two new ZEISS telephoto lens attachments for the upcoming Vivo X300 Ultra smartphone, designed to vastly extend long-distance shooting capabilities. The 400mm teleconverter was first showcased at MWC 2026, and now product manager Han Boxiao has introduced a 200mm version as well. Both accessories aim to boost zoom range significantly while preserving image sharpness.
The first accessory, the G2 Ultra 400mm telephoto extender, targets content creators craving serious zoom power. Han says it delivers an equivalent focal length of 400mm, ranking among the highest optical zoom levels offered by smartphone lens modules. When paired with the X300 Ultra’s 200MP periscope camera, this setup can capture detailed optical shots at extremely long focal distances. Taking 23mm as the baseline 1× zoom, the combo provides roughly 17.4× pure optical magnification thanks to the massive 200MP sensor.
Vivo also claims the 400mm lens features enhanced optical stabilization-around 3° of optical correction-and a new high refresh-rate tracking system that maintains focus even at speeds up to 60fps. Even with the lens attached, the system reportedly keeps a CIPA stabilization rating of 4.5. That makes it feasible to get usable shots at focal lengths equivalent to 1600mm, ideal for photographing wildlife or stage performances from a distance.

Alongside the larger lens, Vivo introduced a revamped second-generation 200mm G2 telephoto lens, which is now lighter and more compact. According to the company, the weight has been cut by 27%, down to about 153 grams, with a smaller overall footprint.
Despite the slimmer profile, the optical design has been improved. The 200mm lens now uses 15 elements instead of the previous 13, enhancing image sharpness while maintaining effective stabilization rated at CIPA 6.5. Vivo notes the compact build makes the lens convenient for daily shooting without compromising telephoto quality.
These lenses are part of a broader ZEISS camera ecosystem Vivo is building, covering a wide range of focal lengths. The system includes lenses spanning ultra-wide 14mm, standard 35mm, portrait 85mm, all the way up to the new 200mm and 400mm telephoto options. One image also shows a ZEISS 2.35× telephoto lens compatible with current X300 models and expected to work with the X300 Ultra as well.
Vivo’s aggressive push into attachable lenses with premium ZEISS optics signals a new chapter in smartphone photography. By offering optical zoom ranges previously unimaginable in handheld devices-and combining them with ultra-high-resolution sensors and advanced stabilization-Vivo bets that users will increasingly choose smartphones over dedicated cameras for telephoto shots. For content creators and photography enthusiasts worldwide, these developments hint at a more versatile, pocketable future where quality and zoom power no longer require bulky equipment.
