Samsung has boosted the security credentials of its monitors by securing Common Criteria (CC) certification through its Knox Vault technology. Building on over a decade of Samsung Smart TVs carrying this certification, monitoring devices released since 2024 now gain trusted protection against hacking and unauthorized access, notably enhancing user safety for online transactions and smart home interactions.
The Common Criteria certification framework evaluates three critical security features within Samsung’s monitors: System Integrity Monitoring (SIM), Unauthorized Execution Prevention (UEP), and Web Browser Security (WBS). SIM continuously watches the device kernel for anomalies, UEP blocks unauthorized code by validating digital signatures, and WBS protects users from phishing attempts during web browsing. These layers reflect Knox’s multi-faceted defense strategy.
Samsung’s Knox security architecture extends beyond typical software protections by including Knox Matrix, Knox Vault, and TrustZone. Knox Matrix offers centralized, multi-device security management; Knox Vault isolates and safeguards sensitive data and is exclusive to the Smart Monitor M8 and M9; while TrustZone creates a hardware-secure environment to anchor defenses at the chip level. This holistic approach addresses growing security demands amid increasing connected display usage.
Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display business, emphasized the rising importance of verified security in connected displays. As more workflows and daily interactions depend on smart monitors and TVs, having Common Criteria certified Knox protection across products ensures users are shielded consistently across Samsung’s ecosystem.
Security certifications like Common Criteria are becoming a baseline expectation, not a bonus, especially as monitors incorporate more smart features and serve as control hubs for homes and offices. While other manufacturers have begun integrating hardware-backed security, Samsung’s extended Knox ecosystem offers an integrated layer difficult to match, ensuring its displays stand out in a crowded smart monitor market.
