Samsung is set to release a new budget phone, the Galaxy M17e, on March 17, offering a striking feature that even many premium models lack: a large 6,000mAh battery. Targeted primarily at the Indian market, this affordable device promises long endurance, surpassing even Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S23 Ultra, in battery capacity.

Leaked details suggest the Galaxy M17e is essentially a rebranded Galaxy A07 5G, which means specs are modest but practical for entry-level buyers. The phone packs a 6.7-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, which is rare at this price point. Design-wise, you’ll find a familiar O-shaped notch and somewhat chunky bezels, a trade-off for cost efficiency.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset powers the Galaxy M17e. It’s an entry-level processor with unremarkable performance but should do fine for everyday tasks while preserving battery life. The phone holds an IP54 rating for splash and dust protection and is around 8.2 mm thick, which keeps it comfortably portable.

Photography on the Galaxy M17e includes a dual rear camera setup led by a 50MP wide sensor, supplemented by a 2MP depth sensor for better portrait shots. The selfie camera comes in at 8MP, sufficient for casual video calls and social media selfies. On the software front, Samsung promises One UI 5 along with six years of Android updates and security patches, an unusually generous support window for a budget device.

Priced below INR 14,000 (about $153), the Galaxy M17e is positioned to compete fiercely in the value segment. Samsung’s budget phones have historically been among the best-selling Android devices worldwide, so the M17e’s combination of battery capacity and software longevity should keep that tradition alive. The phone will be available in two distinct color options:

  • Blitz Blue
  • Vibe Violet

While the Galaxy M17e doesn’t boast flashy hardware or groundbreaking features, it underscores a smart move by Samsung: delivering large batteries and reliable software updates in affordable devices, filling gaps left by flagship phones that prioritize power and premium materials over endurance. It’s a calculated nod to budget-conscious buyers who prize longevity over speed.
