Realme is set to launch the Realme 16 in India soon, introducing the nation to its first selfie mirror smartphone. Originally released in Vietnam earlier this year, the Realme 16 features a mirrored surface near the rear cameras, enabling high-quality selfies using the main rear camera rather than the traditional front-facing camera.

Realme 16 selfie mirror design and camera setup

The Realme 16 sports a horizontal camera bar similar to Google Pixel and iPhone designs, but it stands out with a selfie mirror positioned near the rear camera array. This allows users to take selfies with the 50-megapixel Sony IMX852 main sensor, providing potentially clearer and more detailed photos than a typical 50MP front camera. The Realme 16 joins the brand’s existing Realme 16 Pro and 16 Pro+ models.

Realme 16 specifications and performance features

Under the hood, the Realme 16 is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 6400 Turbo chipset, paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. Storage is expandable via a hybrid SIM slot. The 6.57-inch AMOLED display offers Full HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and up to 1,400 nits of brightness, delivering vibrant visuals and smooth performance.

The device runs Android 13 with Realme UI 7, and includes an optical in-screen fingerprint sensor for security.

Battery, durability, and additional features of the Realme 16

The Realme 16 packs a large 7,000mAh battery, supporting 60W fast charging and reverse charging capabilities. Audio is enhanced by dual stereo speakers. Unusually for its segment, the phone offers high-level dust and water resistance with IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings. A 6050mm² heat dissipation unit helps keep the device cool during heavy usage.

Realme 16 pricing and competition in India

Priced under Rs 20,000 (around $240), the Realme 16 targets budget-conscious consumers seeking innovative features like the selfie mirror and a large battery. It competes with popular models such as Xiaomi’s Redmi Note series and Samsung’s Galaxy M lineup in India. The success of the Realme 16 will depend on user acceptance of the mirror selfie feature and overall performance.
