Pokémon and IKEA Japan have launched a joint event that merges virtual life simulation with real-world experiences. From April 1 to May 10, players of the mobile game Pokémon Pokopia can explore a newly added Dream Island, featuring homes designed by IKEA’s creative team. The event lets players ”try on” living in these stylized interiors, blending the charm of Pokémon with IKEA’s signature design aesthetic.
Alongside the in-game update, IKEA stores across Japan will showcase Pokémon-themed rooms inspired by popular characters like Pikachu and Snorlax. These real-life spaces mirror the game’s designs but are composed entirely of regular IKEA furnishings arranged to evoke the Pokémon world-no officially licensed Pokémon furniture is being sold.

From April 18 to May 10, IKEA stores in Japan will also host a ”stamp rally” promotional event. Customers spending over 5,000 yen (about $31) will receive exclusive Pokémon Pokopia sticker packs. There will be prize giveaways, including IKEA gift cards, collectible keychains, and stickers aimed at fans of the franchise.

Pokémon Pokopia, which launched earlier this March, has quickly become one of the fastest-selling spin-offs in the Pokémon series. Unlike mainline Pokémon titles from Nintendo, Pokopia focuses on a laid-back life-sim experience infused with familiar creatures and collectible elements, making it a perfect fit for this IKEA collaboration.
While collaborations between gaming and lifestyle brands have grown common globally-Apple Arcade and IKEA have teamed up on furniture-themed games before-this event stands out by creating a full-circle experience. Players can engage with the Pokémon universe both virtually on Dream Island and tangibly in IKEA’s physical stores.
Looking ahead, this partnership highlights the increasing convergence between gaming and home design sectors, raising questions about how brands might further blur virtual and physical boundaries. Will we see more real-world retail spaces doubling as interactive game worlds? For Pokémon, a franchise known for experimentation, this could be the start of similar lifestyle ventures.
