Poco is gearing up to launch its X8 Pro series globally, delivering a refreshed take on Redmi’s Turbo 5 lineup with a focus on bigger batteries and MediaTek processors. The Poco X8 Pro and X8 Pro Max will be based on the Redmi Turbo 5 and Turbo 5 Max but will feature notable tweaks, including battery capacities of 6500mAh and 7550mAh, respectively, marking a bump over their Chinese predecessors.
Bigger batteries meet MediaTek’s latest chips
The Poco X8 Pro models will utilize MediaTek’s recently launched Dimensity chips: the base X8 Pro getting the Dimensity 8500 Ultra, while the top-tier X8 Pro Max will pack the Dimensity 9500+. This contrasts with many competing mid-range phones leaning on Qualcomm Snapdragon variants, hinting at Poco’s commitment to the rising MediaTek platform. Enhancements aren’t limited to performance; the lineup will feature OLED displays in two sizes-6.59 inches for the X8 Pro and 6.83 inches for the Max variant-with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, promising smooth and vibrant visuals.
Camera improvements and memory specs
The Poco X8 Pro and Pro Max also upgrade their camera setups. Front-facing shooters will come in at 20MP and 32MP, catering to selfie enthusiasts, while the rear cameras pair a 50MP main sensor featuring optical image stabilization (OIS) alongside an 8MP ultrawide lens, blending versatility with stability. Memory options will run up to 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and as much as 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage, targeting users who want more multitasking muscle and faster app loading times.
This move echoes current market trends where mid-range smartphones increasingly offer specs and features once confined to flagships, but at sensible price points. Poco’s embrace of MediaTek chips and bigger battery cells could give it an edge against competitors who prioritize Snapdragon processors but skimp on endurance.
While Poco retains external design cues from Redmi’s Turbo 5 series, key hardware upgrades may sway buyers wanting long-lasting devices with robust performance and solid camera experiences. As smartphones push display sizes above 6.5 inches, battery capacity becomes a selling point-especially with power-hungry 120Hz OLED panels.
As the Poco X8 Pro lineup nears release, questions remain around pricing and exact availability in various markets. Given the competitive mid-range segment, success will likely hinge on how Poco balances cost with these upgraded components. MediaTek’s ongoing performance improvements suggest the brand could seize more market share if it plays its cards right.
