Oppo has unveiled the Find N6 foldable smartphone, blending high-end specs with a slim, sub-9mm design. Targeted at Asian markets only, this new device could shake up the foldable phone scene, stepping out of Samsung’s shadow by pushing build quality, battery life, and camera capabilities in ways that rival the Galaxy Z Fold series.
Though the Find N6 is unlikely to reach the US or Europe anytime soon, it illustrates Oppo’s commitment to folding tech. Their obsession with minimizing the fold’s crease continues with ”3D liquid printing” and laser scanning that shrinks hinge height variance dangerously close-to just 0.05mm-aiming for a crease you barely notice. TÜV Rheinland-certified tests show an 82% reduction in long-term crease formation compared to last year’s model. Still, a faint crease remains visible, if not easily felt.
On thickness, Oppo impressively compresses the foldable footprint to 8.93mm folded, on par with the iPhone 17 Pro’s 8.75mm, making it a slim presence in the pocket. Added protection arrives through an IP59 rating against dust and water-still relatively rare in foldable smartphones. The hardware button-first seen on the Find X9-adds quick access to cameras or sound profiles, while the outer and inner 6.62-inch and 8.12-inch displays come brighter than before, hitting peak brightness levels of 3,500 and 2,500 nits, respectively, although not outshining Motorola’s latest foldables.
Powering the Oppo Find N6 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a custom 7-core flagship chipset, paired with a standout 6,000mAh battery-substantially larger than those in the Find N5 and Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7. In practical use, video playback tests revealed nearly 30 hours on the external screen and 24 hours on the folding display, alongside rapid 80W wired and 50W wireless charging support-though wireless fast charging requires Oppo’s proprietary gear, meaning Qi and MagSafe users cannot access it.
Camera-wise, Oppo flexes with a new 200MP main sensor paired with a 50MP ultrawide lens that boasts 50% more light intake, and a 50MP telephoto offering 3X periscope zoom plus telemacro focus down to 10cm. Video captures support Dolby Vision at 4K 60fps, while the primary sensor handles 120fps slow-motion-features aligning well with Samsung’s Fold flagship cameras. The ongoing Hasselblad partnership brings along the Hi-Res mode capturing full sensor detail and artistic XPAN panoramic shots. However, the telephoto lens’s 3X zoom falls short compared to competitors like Google’s Pixel 10 Pro Fold, which offers a 5X zoom.
Multitasking is another strong feature with a ”Free-Flow Windows” system allowing up to four apps running simultaneously. However, cramming three extra windows on an 8.1-inch screen feels overwhelming and might induce that dreaded ”stress headache.” Oppo’s new AI Pen stylus joins the arsenal, housed in a magnetic charging holster attached to the back without bloating the slim chassis. While not for everyone, the pen adds genuine utility, especially with upcoming software updates promising screen-off note-taking.
Oppo also extends its ecosystem compatibility with ”iPhone Connect” for AirDrop-style file transfers and remote PC control, turning the Find N6 into a compact portable workstation in a pinch. These software touches fit a niche aimed at power users juggling multiple communication channels and work apps on the go.
Despite its enticing combination of smart design, robust hardware, and polished software, the Find N6 remains a regional product, slated to launch March 20 in China, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and select Asian markets. Pricing starts at ¥9999 (around $1,450) for the base 12GB RAM, 256GB storage model, with silver and muted orange finishes available. Oppo’s hesitance to push this device globally could stem from complex foldable market dynamics dominated by Samsung and lingering concerns about consumer adoption outside Asia.
If Oppo can figure out how to export the Find N6 foldable to Western markets without compromise, their device could become a genuine alternative, offering exceptional battery life, bright displays, and a competitive camera array, all encased in one of the sleekest folding smartphones available today. For now, the Find N6 remains a tantalizing glimpse at what could be next for Oppo and foldable smartphones more broadly.
