Motorola’s upcoming Razr Fold isn’t aiming to be the affordable folding phone many hoped for-it’s setting sights on flagship territory with a hefty price tag of €1,999 (around $2,350) paired with a stylus, the Moto Pen Ultra. Launching first in Europe and then North America, the foldable promises premium features but leaves questions about its standalone price and exact US launch date open.
What stands out is the foldable’s huge 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery-the first of its kind on a North American foldable. This gives Motorola a slight edge, though it just missed matching Honor’s Magic V6, which flaunts an even larger 6,600mAh battery. Complementing this is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processor, indicating performance will be top-tier.

Motorola builds on expectations with an IP48 and IP49 dust and water protection rating, fast 80W wired and 50W wireless charging, and serious camera ambitions. Its main shooter uses a sizeable 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA sensor, supported by a 3x optical zoom lens stabilized optically and an ultrawide 50-megapixel camera that doubles as a macro lens with a 122-degree field of view.
Another highlight: Motorola commits to ”up to” seven years of OS and security updates, which has become a benchmark for premium smartphones but is still exceptional in the foldable category, where software support can be shaky.
The Razr Fold’s positioning signals Motorola’s intent not just to compete but to push the foldable market in North America towards true flagship standards, taking inspiration from international foldables. However, with a price that clashes with consumers’ desire for more accessible foldable devices, the question is whether this high-end approach will broaden foldables’ appeal or continue to make them niche luxuries.
Samsung and Google, the main foldable powerhouses in the US market, may feel some pressure to innovate further as Motorola’s specs checklist challenges their offerings. Yet, it remains to be seen if the Razr Fold’s premium pricing will limit its impact against more established foldable models.
