Meta is preparing to release two new Ray-Ban AI glasses models, named ”Ray-Ban Meta Scriber” and ”Ray-Ban Meta Blazer,” following recent FCC filings. These filings indicate production-ready units, suggesting a launch is near. Unlike previous models, the new releases will support Wi-Fi 6 on the UNII-4 band, promising more stable and faster wireless connections-ideal for live video streaming and AI functionalities requiring instant data transfer.

The FCC documents also reveal that the ”Blazer” comes in both regular and large sizes and that charging cases will accompany the glasses, allowing on-the-go power top-ups. Notably, the model numbers RW7001 and RW7002 mark a significant jump from the earlier RW4002 to RW4014 series, hinting at substantial hardware upgrades, possibly including a new chipset.

Ray-Ban AI glasses, a collaboration between Meta and EssilorLuxottica, have performed exceptionally well, with combined sales reaching about two million units in 2023 and 2024. After selling more than seven million pairs last year, EssilorLuxottica plans to boost production capacity to 20-30 million units annually by year’s end. Meta has also expanded its eyewear lineup by launching AI glasses under the Oakley brand and introducing Ray-Ban Display glasses featuring integrated monocular displays.

This push aligns with Meta shifting its Reality Labs division’s focus toward wearable glasses, cutting back on VR efforts and streamlining its gaming studios. Recent layoffs and project shutdowns reflect this pivot, even as Meta partially reversed the planned closure of its Horizon Worlds VR metaverse after user backlash. Mark Zuckerberg highlighted that glasses and wearables represent the fastest-growing segment for Reality Labs, with most future investment funneled into this area.

The introduction of Wi-Fi 6-compatible glasses appears timed to meet increasing demands for richer, real-time AI interactions and media streaming capabilities on consumer smart eyewear. As competitors continue to innovate in augmented reality and smart glasses, Meta is determined to solidify its lead by combining advanced connectivity with stylish hardware partnerships, deepening its presence in wearable tech beyond virtual reality.
