Starting March 12, Lucid will roll out Apple CarPlay support for its Gravity electric SUV, giving it a head start over Tesla in integrating the popular iPhone interface. The update, arriving as part of Lucid’s UX 3.5 software release, will be available via an over-the-air download for existing owners in North America, with European and Middle Eastern customers receiving it later this month. Alongside CarPlay, Android Auto support will also be introduced, reflecting Lucid’s response to growing demand for seamless smartphone connectivity in EVs.
This update makes Apple CarPlay a standard feature on all new Lucid Gravity SUVs, broadening the automaker’s appeal to iPhone users seeking the convenience of wired or wireless integration with their vehicle’s infotainment system. Lucid’s senior VP of Engineering and Software, Emad Dlala, emphasized how these features enhance owner comfort and convenience by creating a more connected driving experience.
Lucid is no stranger to Apple CarPlay, having equipped its luxury Lucid Air sedan with it since 2023. However, the Gravity’s update marks a significant step as it pushes ahead of Tesla, which has yet to officially confirm any CarPlay support despite ongoing rumors. Meanwhile, another electric vehicle maker, Rivian, is prioritizing integration with Apple Car Key and Apple Watch features but has not committed to supporting CarPlay.
By adding Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Lucid is addressing a key demand from electric vehicle buyers: effortless smartphone connectivity without sacrificing native vehicle interface quality. As automakers continue to expand software capabilities, Lucid’s approach demonstrates its agility in delivering sought-after tech enhancements faster than industry giants like Tesla.
