Logitech has unveiled the RS H-Shifter, a new mechanical gearstick accessory designed to bring greater realism to sim racing setups. Positioned as an upgraded alternative to the Driving Force Shifter, the RS H-Shifter features a sturdier build and enhanced tactile feedback for a more immersive gear-shifting experience.
The RS H-Shifter is now available in select regions for $159.99 / €159.99. It connects easily to Logitech’s Pro and RS50 wheel bases. PC users can plug the device directly via USB for supported racing titles, while console players will need Logitech’s proprietary adapter for the G-series wheels.
Compared to the previous model, the new shifter boasts upgraded materials-a blend of aluminum, steel, and reinforced plastic-for improved durability. It also employs contactless Hall effect sensors that reduce mechanical wear by minimizing physical moving parts, a key advantage for gamers who put the accessory through heavy use.
One standout feature of the RS H-Shifter is its improved haptic feedback. Players can feel precise clicks as they shift through seven forward gears, deepening the sense of realism in titles that support manual transmission.
For newcomers, Logitech has integrated a safety mechanism that prevents accidental shifts into seventh gear or reverse by requiring extra force to engage these positions.
The RS H-Shifter can be incorporated into full sim racing rigs alongside monitors, pedal sets, and additional control panels. At the same time, its reinforced clamp allows it to be securely attached to a standard desk, which is convenient for console players without dedicated racing setups.
Customization options include interchangeable shift knobs and an extension rod for the lever, although the default configuration should suit most users out of the box.
H-pattern shifters like this are particularly favored in rally, GT, and street racing simulators on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox. However, compatibility varies by game. For example, Gran Turismo 7 does not support the RS H-Shifter in online modes. Titles such as Assetto Corsa Competizione typically emphasize paddle or sequential shifters instead.
While Logitech’s RS H-Shifter brings a solid mechanical experience to sim racing enthusiasts, it faces stiff competition from integrated paddle setups and sequential shifters that dominate major racing titles. Going forward, it will be interesting to see whether more games expand native support for H-pattern gearsticks and whether Logitech continues to push further innovations for sim racers seeking authentic manual transmission.
