The updated branding simplifies the moniker but does not alter the underlying zoom or image-processing capabilities introduced with the Pixel 10 Pro models. Alongside the name update, the Pixel 10 Pro product listing has been revised to reflect this streamlined terminology.
Initially rolled out to the Pixel 10a, the 10.3 camera update is now reaching all eligible Pixels via the Play Store. It coincides with the March 2026 Android 16 QPR3 patch, which addressed stability issues-specifically fixing a camera service crash affecting the Pixel 9+ models-boosting overall camera reliability.
One of the broader enhancements arriving with this update is improved support for external camera connectivity. Compatible Pixel 6 and newer devices can now utilize external hardware like webcams, DSLRs, and even other Pixel phone cameras through USB connections, provided these peripherals support the USB Video Class (UVC) specification.
The connectivity options differ by device generation:
- Pixel 6 and newer (excluding Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series) can connect with other Pixel phones (except Pixel 10 and A-series devices), GoPro cameras, and USB cameras.
- Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series devices from Pixel 6a onward can connect only with GoPro and USB cameras, not other Pixel devices.
This distinction likely reflects hardware or software limitations with the newer Pixel 10 and A-series models, although Google has not publicly explained the rationale. Nevertheless, the external camera integration is a welcome step for creators and professionals seeking flexible shooting setups using their Pixel smartphones.
