DJI has entered the 360-degree drone arena with the launch of the Avata 360, marking the company’s first drone designed to capture full spherical footage at up to 8K resolution and 60 frames per second. This move puts DJI in direct competition with the Antigravity A1, a similar device from a brand affiliated with Insta360.
The Avata 360 features a 1-inch dual-camera setup capable of recording video at 8K resolution and 60fps, doubling the frame rate of the Antigravity A1, which maxes out at 8K/30fps. It also shoots HDR video and still images up to an impressive 120 megapixels.
Although DJI hasn’t yet disclosed the drone’s exact weight, the Avata 360 arrives with its own FPV goggles and motion controllers, enhancing pilot immersion. This matches the Antigravity A1’s approach, which also bundles FPV gear for a first-person flying experience.
The drone offers up to 23 minutes of flight time-just a minute shy of the Antigravity A1’s endurance-and includes omnidirectional obstacle sensors and built-in propeller guards. DJI also provides an option for interchangeable camera lenses via a separately sold kit, adding a layer of customization.

DJI’s proprietary O4+ video transmission system powers a maximum control range of 20 km for the Avata 360. The drone supports ActiveTrack 360° for comprehensive object tracking, an FPV mode, intelligent tracking features, one-click video editing, and a virtual gimbal that lets pilots control pan and tilt freely for dynamic footage.
Storage-wise, the Avata 360 packs 42GB of internal memory, outstripping the Antigravity A1’s 20GB capacity, reducing the immediate need for external storage during shoots.
Pricing for the DJI Avata 360 is as follows:
- Base model: €459
- Model with DJI RC 2 controller: €719
- Fly More combo package: €939
Pre-orders are live now via DJI’s official channels and authorized retailers, with shipments kicking off on April 26.
As DJI moves into the 360-degree drone space, known until now primarily for niche, specialist products, the Avata 360 offers a compelling blend of high-resolution capture, intelligent tracking, and extensive range that could raise the bar across FPV 360 drones. Watch closely to see if DJI’s broader ecosystem and polish will outweigh entrenched players like Insta360’s Antigravity line.
