Apple has launched the AirPods Max 2, an upgraded version of its premium over-ear headphones. Central to the update is the new H2 chip, which powers improvements across noise cancellation, sound quality, and smart features like Adaptive Audio and Live Translation. These enhancements aim to make the listening experience more immersive and responsive to users’ environments. The AirPods Max 2 also support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio through the included USB-C cable.

With the AirPods Max 2, Apple claims up to 1.5 times more effective Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) compared to the original AirPods Max. This means even louder ambient noises from airplanes or trains are better suppressed. Transparency mode also sounds more natural, helping users stay aware of their surroundings without sacrificing audio clarity.

AirPods Max 2 sound quality improvements with lossless audio and spatial features

The headphones include a high-dynamic-range amplifier that delivers cleaner audio while retaining the signature sound that AirPods Max users expect. Spatial Audio has been refined to enhance instrument positioning and offer more natural bass, mids, and highs. Thanks to the included USB-C cable, AirPods Max 2 uniquely support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio, catering especially to musicians and audio creators who benefit from ultra-low latency and high fidelity during production and mixing in apps like Logic Pro.

Gamers also get a boost with reduced wireless audio latency, improving responsiveness and immersion when using Game Mode on iOS, macOS, and iPadOS titles.

Smart features powered by H2 chip for everyday and professional use

The H2 chip enables several intelligent features: Adaptive Audio automatically fine-tunes ANC and Transparency based on your environment, while Conversation Awareness lowers volume and background noise when you start speaking nearby. Voice Isolation improves call quality by focusing on the user’s voice. For creators, studio-quality audio recording and a remote camera control function via the Digital Crown enhance content production workflows.

Another notable addition is Live Translation, which facilitates real-time multilingual conversations, leveraging Apple Intelligence. This feature is available in a growing set of languages, though availability depends on location and device compatibility.
