Apple is marking its 50th anniversary with a vibrant celebration at Sydney’s iconic Opera House, turning its eastern sails into a canvas for digital art created by a group of emerging Australian artists. From March 25 to 27, the Opera House will showcase artwork designed using the iPad’s Procreate app, blending technology, creativity, and architecture in a striking public display.

The public also got involved, joining free Today at Apple sessions earlier this month to submit their own artwork, some of which will be selected alongside commissioned pieces for projection on the landmark’s sails. The illumination events are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. local time on March 25, and 8 p.m. on March 26 and 27, allowing locals and visitors to enjoy the celebration under the night sky.

Australian composer Bailey Pickles is contributing to the celebration by composing and performing music tied to the event. While the exact timing of his performances remains under wraps, his involvement signals Apple’s intent to blend sound and visual arts in this milestone commemoration.

Apple has already held 50th-anniversary festivities across several countries, including the US, China, and South Korea, with upcoming events planned in Canada, France, and Thailand. The Sydney Opera House event adds a unique cultural touchpoint, linking Apple’s technological legacy with Australian creativity and one of the world’s most recognizable cultural symbols.

As Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is currently in nearby China, speculation continues about a potential surprise visit, though no confirmed word has come yet. Given Apple’s pattern of hosting global celebrations, many anticipate a culminating event at Apple Park in California, which would provide a fitting finale to the worldwide series of 50th-anniversary commemorations. Apple’s actual anniversary falls on April 1, marking half a century since the tech giant’s inception.
