Xiaomi India has unveiled fresh details about the Redmi Note 15 5G Special Edition, set to officially launch on April 2. The company revealed the handset’s design and highlighted how it differs from the standard Redmi Note 15 5G, which debuted in December 2023.
While the regular Redmi Note 15 5G is available in Black, Glacier Blue, and Mist Purple, the Special Edition brings new finishes: Frosted White, Carbon Black, and Crimson Red wrapped in vegan leather with a gold-tone frame. The Carbon Black variant is the slimmest at 7.35 mm thick, followed by Frosted White at 7.4 mm and Crimson Red at 7.82 mm.
The Special Edition also switches up the camera and battery specs. Unlike the standard model’s 108 MP main sensor, this version steps down to a 50 MP camera but still captures 4K video, supports a Dynamic Shot mode, and offers a three-focal-length toggle for portrait photography.

Battery life sees an upgrade too. The Special Edition packs a 5800 mAh cell that Xiaomi claims lasts over 44 hours on a single charge. By comparison, the standard model uses a 5520 mAh battery rated for more than 38 hours. Both models support 45W fast wired charging.
Under the hood, the Special Edition sticks with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 processor, promising smooth performance without noticeable slowdowns for up to 48 months, according to Xiaomi. Pricing details have yet to be announced.
To put this in perspective, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 15 5G Special Edition offers a more premium design and bigger battery but compromises on camera resolution compared to the regular Redmi Note 15 5G. This tactic mirrors other brands’ approaches with regional or limited-run variants to cater to specific style or usability preferences. With its vegan leather and gold accents, it clearly targets buyers seeking a standout look beyond typical colorways.
Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see if Xiaomi plans similar Special Editions for other models and how these variants will stack up against competitors offering premium finishes and large batteries in the midrange segment, like Samsung’s Galaxy A series and Motorola’s Edge lineup. The real test will be whether these changes justify a price premium and attract a new segment of customers.
