Casio has launched official sound libraries featuring three of its iconic 1980s electronic keyboards, now available through Waves Place-a platform known for AI-generated audio tools. The collections include sounds from the Casio VL-1, SK-1, and MT-40, all accessible starting March 25.
Waves Place previously specialized in generating sounds from text prompts using artificial intelligence. The new offering adds licensed, high-quality samples of these classic instruments, giving musicians and content creators the option to purchase and use the original sounds legally in commercial music, videos, and other projects. Each pack contains stock tones, rhythms, and individual samples faithful to the original keyboards.
Pricing for the sound packs is as follows:
- VL-1: 1,100 yen (~$6.90)
- SK-1: 2,180 yen (~$13.70)
- MT-40: 4,980 yen (~$31.20)
The VL-1 pack recreates the distinctive ”calculator synth” tones and patterns that made this model a staple of affordable electronic music in the early ’80s. The SK-1 set highlights the tiny sampling keyboard’s features that democratized sampling for everyday users at a bargain price. Meanwhile, the MT-40 package includes the signature rhythms and loops that played a vital role in early digital reggae, notably the iconic Sleng Teng style.

The historical significance of these instruments is notable. The VL-1 helped popularize accessible electronic sound creation in the early ’80s. The SK-1 was one of the first affordable keyboards to make sampling widely available. The MT-40 gained legendary status in reggae circles thanks to its built-in rhythm patterns.
For producers seeking authentic vintage digital tones from Casio’s early era, these sound packs offer a straightforward, legal way to integrate those sounds into today’s music environments. They complement Waves Place’s existing suite of AI-powered tools, which also includes text-based sound generation and multilayer mixing capabilities.
