Samsung is expanding its foldable lineup with the Galaxy Wide Fold, a new model expected to debut as soon as July alongside the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Flip8. Early renders reveal a phone with noticeably different proportions, suggesting Samsung is exploring fresh form factors beyond the established Fold series.

The Galaxy Wide Fold’s dimensions and screen ratio-approximately 4:3-set it apart from the narrower, book-like Galaxy Z Fold8. Its body is slim, with a slightly thicker folded profile, measuring 123.9 × 161.4 × 4.9 mm opened and 123.9 × 82.2 × 9.8 mm folded. These dimensions hint at a compact yet sturdy device. It also sports a simpler rear camera setup with two lenses instead of the Fold series’ triple-camera array.

Powering the new Galaxy Wide Fold is expected to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, a flagship-class processor tailored for Samsung devices. The phone’s battery capacity is reported to be 5000 mAh with 45W charging support-specs aligning well with other recent foldable flagships.

The device features a large 5.4-inch external display and a spacious 7.6-inch internal fold-out screen. This setup balances usability when folded with a large canvas once opened, appealing to users seeking versatility in a foldable device.

Designed by highly regarded leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer-known as OnLeaks, whose track record includes early renders of flagship smartphones from Samsung, Huawei, Google, and Sony-the Wide Fold’s images provide a credible glimpse at one of Samsung’s upcoming foldables. Despite being early renders, the Galaxy Wide Fold signals Samsung’s intent to diversify its foldable offerings by experimenting with wider screen formats.

While the Galaxy Z Fold series has traditionally featured a tall, book-like screen, the Wide Fold’s broader aspect ratio might attract users seeking a more tablet-like experience in a pocketable format. How this impacts practical usability and software optimization remains to be seen when Samsung eventually makes an official announcement.
