Early renders suggest that while the Fold 8 will maintain nearly identical height and width measurements compared to its predecessor, it’s getting thicker by around 0.1mm when folded and 0.3mm unfolded. This shift is driven by the inclusion of a 5,000mAh battery, a substantial leap from the 4,400mAh pack used since the Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 stunned many when it finally pushed Samsung ahead in the foldable race with more notable upgrades. However, the Fold 8’s design tweaks appear restrained, signaling Samsung’s focus on optimizing the existing formula rather than reinventing it. The model leaking out today isn’t the upcoming ”wide” foldable rumored to take aim at Apple’s folding iPhone; instead, it looks like a familiar, evolutionary refresh.
Dimensions stand at 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm folded, and 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm unfolded. Samsung’s decision to boost battery capacity to 5,000mAh points to addressing one of the Z Fold series’ longest-running gripes: limited battery life. Compared to Samsung’s smaller 4,400mAh units from years ago, even Google’s Pixel 8 Pro Fold tops out just above 5,000mAh, so Samsung is finally catching up to its competitors. Alongside this, a rumored 45W fast charging capability-similar to Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series-could help dissipate concerns over charge times.
Display sizes apparently remain unchanged, and Samsung is expected to keep the inner screen camera as a punch-hole rather than switching back to an under-display solution. The ultrawide camera sensor might see a modest bump to 50 megapixels while the other cameras carry over from the Fold 7. There’s speculation that the thicker profile could hint at the return of an S Pen digitizer, but the slight bulk increase aligns more directly with housing larger battery cells.
