Xiaomi has started the global beta rollout of HyperOS 3.1, following its stable release in China. The initial testing phase is confined to flagship models, including the Xiaomi 17 Ultra (EEA) and the Xiaomi 17 (Global). This move shifts the focus from the Chinese market to worldwide users eager to try out the latest iteration of Xiaomi’s operating system ahead of its broader deployment.

Unlike the previous HyperOS 3.0, this update does not correspond with an Android 15 base. Instead, HyperOS 3.1 is built exclusively on Android 16, limiting its eligibility to Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO handsets that already run this newer Android version. This makes it a refinement layer rather than a major Android upgrade, emphasizing stability and feature enhancements over platform changes.

The current beta program is small and will gradually expand, giving early adopters a chance to preview HyperOS 3.1 updates before they roll out broadly. Xiaomi has opened applications for the Mi Pilot testing community, inviting users to sign up through the Mi Community app. Beta testers should be aware that these builds can be unstable, so using a secondary device or backing up data is strongly recommended.

How to join Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3.1 beta program

  • Download the Mi Community app and register for an account.
  • Set the app’s region to ”Global” via the ME tab → Set up → Change region.
  • Find the beta program available for your compatible device and tap Apply.
  • Complete the questionnaire aiming for 60 points or more for better acceptance chances.
  • Submit your application and wait for approval, which takes up to seven days.
  • Upon approval, check for updates in your device’s Settings → About phone → HyperOS version.

With HyperOS evolving rapidly, Xiaomi’s approach of testing incremental updates based on Android 16 ensures smoother adoption and improves user experience without waiting for a new Android base. While the limited initial rollout means only select users get early access, expect wider availability in the coming weeks as the beta program expands.
