Apple will let users fine-tune the transparency intensity of its Liquid Glass design with a new slider in iOS 27. Previously, iOS 26.1 only offered two preset modes for the glass effect: a more transparent or a more matte finish. Now, the upcoming iOS 27 update introduces a system-wide transparency slider, expanding customization beyond the lock screen clock where it was once limited.

This transparency slider was initially planned for iOS 26 but was delayed due to technical challenges. Bloomberg reports Apple expects to overcome these issues for iOS 27’s release. This feature enhances user control over the Liquid Glass aesthetic, a defining visual element on iPhones and iPads.

Allowing users to adjust glass transparency intensity recognizes different preferences for visual vibrancy and blur effects. The feature could also improve readability or battery life depending on the chosen transparency level. This practical refinement fits Apple’s approach of incrementally enhancing the user interface experience without radically changing the core design.
