Xiaomi is gearing up to challenge premium electric SUVs by launching the YU7 GT in China, boasting a blistering 990 horsepower and a substantial 101.7 kWh battery. According to filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), this crossover promises a range of up to 438 miles on the CLTC cycle and could debut later this year, positioning it as a direct rival to vehicles like the Porsche Macan Turbo.
While MIIT’s early disclosures often spoil the surprise, they offer a detailed glimpse of Xiaomi’s ambitions. The YU7 GT carries a battery pack on par with the YU7 Max model, though the latter targets an even longer CLTC range of 519 miles. The stark increase in power from 690 to 990 horsepower between the Max and GT variants partly explains the drop in range, highlighting that Xiaomi prioritizes raw performance in the GT variant.
The YU7 GT’s design carries Ferrari Purosangue inspirations and has been seen testing at Germany’s Nürburgring, underlining Xiaomi’s serious approach to performance. However, despite its impressive two-motor setup, the YU7 GT seems less extreme than the company’s SU7 Ultra sedan, which boasts over 1,500 horsepower from a three-motor arrangement but has seen safety concerns linked to its high-speed potential. Xiaomi might be dialing back power slightly to balance speed and road usability.

By benchmarking the Porsche Macan, Porsche Cayenne, and Tesla Model Y, Xiaomi has clearly set its sights on high-performance luxury electric SUVs. At 990 horsepower, the YU7 GT outstrips the Macan Turbo Electric’s 630 horsepower but remains just shy of the Cayenne Turbo Electric’s 1,139 horsepower. This places Xiaomi firmly in play within a fiercely competitive segment where power and range often dictate buyer choices.
Xiaomi’s strategy is notable for entering an arena dominated by German and American brands with a compelling mix of punch and efficiency. Despite range estimates based on China’s often optimistic CLTC cycle, a realistic expectation of around 300 miles in U.S. testing suggests the YU7 GT could appeal to electric vehicle enthusiasts needing both performance and endurance.
The official unveiling is expected later this year, likely coinciding with major auto events like the Beijing Auto Show. Xiaomi’s evolution from consumer electronics giant to serious electric automaker is accelerating, and with the YU7 GT electric SUV, the company aims to carve out a niche where muscle meets range, challenging the premium electric SUV titans head-on.
