Samsung is gearing up to launch its first smart glasses, the Galaxy Glasses, in 2026, and Spotify is already preparing an app specifically designed for the device. The Galaxy Glasses will run on Android XR and aim to compete with offerings from companies like Meta.

According to Android Authority, the latest beta version of Spotify’s Android app reveals code designed to display a ”Now Playing” screen on XR-powered smart glasses. The app will also show lyrics on the glasses’ screen, enabling users to follow along with songs more easily-assuming the hardware includes a display.

Unlike smartphones, Android XR glasses don’t run apps natively. Instead, apps process data on a connected phone, then stream the visuals to the glasses for viewing.

Samsung’s upcoming smart glasses reportedly won’t feature a built-in display at launch. Instead, they will rely on an AI assistant named Gemini to fetch information and perform tasks. The device is expected to house a 12-megapixel front-facing camera, microphones, speakers, touch controls, and a 245 mAh battery. Samsung has partnered with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker on development.

Rumors suggest a second-generation Galaxy Glasses model with an integrated display could arrive as soon as next year.

Meta, mentioned as a competitor, is classified as an extremist organization and banned in Russia.

Smart glasses are an emerging category that many tech giants are pursuing. Apple is widely rumored to launch its own mixed-reality headset soon, while Google and Samsung explore similar augmented reality devices. Spotify’s early work on an app designed for XR glasses highlights how entertainment platforms want to secure their place in this new wearable frontier.
