Nihon Falcom is set to release Kyoto Xanadu across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, the upcoming Switch 2, and PC via Steam on July 16 in Japan and Asia. The game will be priced at 7,920 yen for the PS5, Switch, and PC versions, while the Switch 2 digital-only edition will cost 8,070 yen. An upgrade pack priced at 150 yen lets Switch owners upgrade between physical and digital versions. Falcom confirmed Western releases are planned, but as of now, dates remain unconfirmed pending coordination with a European or North American partner.

The limited edition set offers several exclusive physical and digital bonuses. Alongside a physical copy for PS5 or Switch (or a Steam redemption code for PC), it includes a mini original soundtrack featuring the theme ”Outer Sky,” performed by the in-game virtual singer LinoN. A full set of 15 collectible Action Cards representing characters from the Hirasaka Academy’s fictional classes is part of this deluxe package. Fans will also receive exclusive downloadable content with special Japanese-style ”Hirasaka Komachi (Blue)” costumes for characters Rei and Fuka. Additionally, the bundle features authentic cedar wood coasters engraved with the Hirasaka Academy emblem, blending themed memorabilia with gameplay perks.

Pre-orders and first prints will grant early access to the ”Support Card LinoN,” a bonus item that enhances in-game class lessons to boost character training efficiency. This bonus works across both physical and digital editions, encouraging early purchases. The combination of physical collectibles and in-game content highlights Falcom’s continued commitment to fans who enjoy tangible game memorabilia, a growing trend even as digital game sales dominate.

Main cast and characters in Kyoto Xanadu

The story centers around several key students of Hirasaka Academy, each wielding unique weapons called Soul Devices that fuel their combat abilities. Players will engage with these characters, forging alliances and rivalries as they navigate the mysterious Xanadu.

Ren Amano, 17, serves as the dignified vice president of the student council and leads the elite team ”Futen.” Despite his affluent background, he treats all peers equally and is perceptive enough to see that the new transfer student, Rei, isn’t just talk when he vows to dominate Hirasaka’s Xanadu.

Zoya, also 17 and a member of ”Futen,” is impulsive and quick to clash with others, particularly showing hostility towards Rei due to Ren’s interest in him. She wields a Shashka-type Soul Device and struggles to reconcile her emotions as the story unfolds.

Chisa, 16, contrasts her team’s dynamic with a shy and reserved nature, often overshadowed by Zoya’s boldness. However, her kunai-using skills hint at a more dangerous and capable side beneath her quiet demeanor.

Completing the trio is Rachana, 17, considered the intellectual mediator who keeps Zoya and Chisa in balance. Loyal to Amano, she supports whatever decisions he makes, wielding a bow-type Soul Device to provide ranged combat support in encounters.

Kyoto Xanadu seems poised to appeal to fans of narrative-driven Japanese RPGs that blend school life with fantasy action. Its release across current and next-gen platforms ensures a broad reach, while the emphasis on collectible physical extras speaks to Falcom’s core fanbase. As the localized Western release timeline remains unconfirmed, enthusiasts outside Asia will need to stay tuned for further announcements coming next month.
