Epic Games is keeping its weekly game giveaways alive, this time offering mobile users a freebie. While the company usually focuses on PC titles for its free promotions, it occasionally includes mobile games as well.
Last week, mobile players could claim Little Nightmares at no cost, but that promotion has ended. The new free game on offer is Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, available for both Android and iOS through the Epic Games Store app.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap blends action, exploration, and adventure in a revitalized classic. It’s a modern remake of Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap, which originally launched on the Sega Master System in 1989. The remake stays true to the original gameplay while delivering updated hand-drawn visuals and enhanced audio.
The story centers on the protagonist cursed after losing to the Mecha-Dragon, transforming him into a half-human, half-lizard creature. To break the curse and regain his human form, the player must find a magical artifact called the Salamander Cross.
A standout feature of this remake is its fully hand-illustrated graphics, coupled with a re-recorded soundtrack. Players can switch anytime to the original 8-bit graphics and sound, soaking in the nostalgic vibe of the 1989 version.
On Steam, the game enjoys over 1,900 reviews with a ”Very Positive” rating. This free mobile giveaway is available until March 19, after which Epic Games will rotate in another title.
Epic Games’ mobile game giveaways are a relatively rare treat compared to their well-known PC promotions. This offer puts an old-school gem in front of a broader audience, similar to how Apple Arcade or Google Play sometimes spotlight classic or indie titles, but without the subscription barrier.
Watch closely to see which classic or cult favorite Epic Games will offer next to mobile users-it’s an intriguing way to lure players into their ecosystem beyond desktop gaming.
