Asus has launched an updated version of its gaming monitor, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2, initially announced last August as a refresh of the original model. This 27-inch OLED gaming monitor offers a 1440p resolution and a rapid 240Hz refresh rate, targeting high-end competitive gamers.
While the Gen 2 model sticks with the same third-generation WOLED panel, maintaining its resolution and refresh specifications, it introduces several refinements. Most notably, it features a new glossy screen coating designed to reduce reflections and enhance black levels under bright lighting conditions.

Known also as the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR, the updated gaming monitor is now on Amazon for $649 – about $50 less than the original model’s starting price before discounts. Meanwhile, the first-generation model is currently discounted to around $588.
Despite the wave of new OLED monitor technology in 2026 – featuring panels like Tandem OLED and true RGB subpixel layouts – Asus sticks with the WOLED third-generation panel in this gaming monitor. This screen covers 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and reaches a peak brightness of 1300 nits, supporting DisplayHDR 400 True Black for exceptional contrast levels.
A standout enhancement is the new TrueBlack Glossy coating. Asus claims it reduces screen reflections by up to 38% compared to the previous edition, while maintaining deep black tones even in brightly lit environments – an important improvement for OLED panels, which often suffer from glare.
Another practical upgrade is a built-in presence sensor that detects when the user walks away, automatically switching the screen to black. This feature helps reduce the risk of OLED burn-in, a common concern for these displays over long-term use.

The Gen 2 model also features a more compact stand and upgraded connectivity, swapping the original HDMI 2.0 port for HDMI 2.1. Additional ports include DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone jack, and a USB hub.
Currently, the Asus ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2 gaming monitor is available for purchase in the US via Amazon. Though listed on Asus’s official store, it is temporarily out of stock there.
Asus’s refresh highlights the slow but steady evolution of gaming OLED monitors. While other brands experiment with newer panel technologies offering better subpixel layouts and potentially higher brightness, Asus’s choice to stick with a refined WOLED panel suggests a focus on proven performance and price balance. For gamers seeking deep blacks and ultra-fast refresh rates without moving to full RGB OLED, this model remains a compelling option.
Looking ahead, key questions include how Asus will integrate next-generation OLED technologies and whether it can push resolutions beyond 1440p while keeping refresh rates high and burn-in risks low. The Gen 2 model’s improvements in anti-reflective coating and burn-in mitigation are positive steps. However, the 27-inch OLED gaming monitor segment remains in its infancy compared to LCD alternatives from LG, Samsung, and Asus’s own competitors. Watching how pricing and feature sets evolve will be crucial to see if OLED becomes a mainstream choice for competitive gamers.
