Like most major Android updates, ColorOS 16 is being rolled out in phases, so not every device will see the update notification immediately. Early reports from users indicate the OTA package clocks in at roughly 3.39 GB. If you haven’t received the update prompt yet, you can manually check by navigating to Settings → System & updates → Software update.

ColorOS 16 introduces a revamped interface inspired by the interplay of light and shadow in nature, aiming to deliver a cleaner and more modern look. It also debuts ”Seamless Animation,” a new system designed to smooth out navigation, app launches, and multitasking.

Customization gets a boost with the Flux Home Screen feature, which lets users tweak the size and shape of app icons and folders while smartly rearranging them to maintain a balanced layout.

The update also refreshes the Always-On Display mode and integrates generative AI tools for note summarizing and photo editing. However, some of these AI-driven features might not be available on older Oppo models.

Oppo’s ColorOS sits among several manufacturer skins competing globally with Google’s stock Android and Samsung’s One UI. While Apple tightly controls its iOS updates, Android vendors like Oppo offer varied customization and AI integrations to stand out. ColorOS 16’s introduction of AI features follows a broader industry push, with rivals such as Samsung incorporating AI-enhanced camera and productivity tools.

Keep an eye on how Oppo handles this incremental rollout and which models ultimately gain the AI enhancements. Given ongoing resource constraints on older devices, Oppo might trim features selectively, which could become a sticking point for users expecting a uniform experience across handsets.
