Xiaomi has launched the rollout of the HyperOS 3.1 update starting today for several flagship and mid-range devices in China. After an extensive testing period, this update delivers a collection of user interface enhancements, expanded device compatibility, and a more efficient update process. While the rollout initially targets Chinese models, a global release is expected before the end of March, following the appearance of relevant builds on global servers.

The HyperOS 3.1 update is being distributed in phases, with newer Xiaomi and Redmi models from the 17 series, Xiaomi Pads, and the K90 Pro Max among the first to receive it. Devices such as the Xiaomi 15 series, MIX Flip 2, and Redmi K80 models are slated to get the update by the end of March. April will see further expansion to models including the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Redmi K70 Pro, and the Redmi Note 15 series, extending even to tablets like the Redmi Pad 2 Pro.

HyperOS 3.1 introduces Super OTA for faster and smoother updates

A standout feature of HyperOS 3.1 is Xiaomi’s new ”Super OTA,” a next-generation system update method designed to reduce downtime by minimizing reboot times during installation. This improvement addresses a long-standing Android frustration with lengthy and intrusive update processes, making updates faster and less disruptive.

User interface improvements and new app designs in HyperOS 3.1

Beyond system updates, HyperOS 3.1 refines the overall user experience with smoother animations and refreshed designs for core apps such as Gallery and Weather. The update also enhances lock screen customization and introduces a more interactive HyperIsland feature, Xiaomi’s distinctive notification and shortcut hub.

Cross-platform support and enhanced accessibility features

For the first time, Xiaomi devices running HyperOS 3.1 offer native support for Apple AirPods. This includes quick pop-up pairing and spatial audio capabilities for compatible earbuds, a significant step toward bridging ecosystem gaps in consumer technology. Accessibility features have been reorganized for quicker access, and some modes now support gesture controls for easier navigation.

Performance improvements under the hood

Under the hood, HyperOS 3.1 introduces improvements in memory management, faster app startups, and reduced frame stuttering to deliver a smoother daily experience for users.

Device compatibility and rollout schedule for HyperOS 3.1 update

  • Xiaomi and Redmi 17 series
  • Xiaomi Pads and K90 Pro Max (early rollout)
  • Xiaomi 15 series, MIX Flip 2, Redmi K80 (by end of March)
  • Xiaomi 14 Ultra, Redmi K70 Pro, Redmi Note 15 series, Redmi Pad 2 Pro (April rollout)

While HyperOS 3.1 does not dramatically overhaul the operating system, it delivers substantive quality-of-life improvements that address user pain points and polish existing features. Xiaomi’s phased rollout strategy prioritizes device stability before expanding to the global audience, benefiting millions of users worldwide in the coming weeks.
